A week in the snow

We have had a full week of skiing so far and Ella has had a little burn out! She decided today was rest day, and the snow field can have a day without her. She had a relaxed day with Nan and they walked the shops and played spot the items on the map. Ella loves maps, and the resort village has a printed map showing all the buildings and points of interest. So with pen in hand she went about the village ,ticking off all the items that were shown on the map. The remaining troup went off to Mt Morrisey and had a great day skiing.

No green runs for Jack now. Great fun that he can ski all but the steepest runs now with confidence and control.

We again feel like we have our own private ski runs and chairlift to ourselves . There is no one around mid week and we are not complaining.

Jack, James & Nat move onto the Mt Morrisey quad chair. No Disneyland type queuing here!,,,

I really don’t know how they make it pay sometimes.

On this Mt Morrisey  ( one of the three mountains that make up Sun Peaks ) there is a run that has a series of trees that people have decorated, Jack claimed he counted ten on the ride up the chairlift. They are mostly decorated in Christmas balls and tinsel etc.

It feels like Christmas when you get days like this

This week up on Mt Todd they are running a F I S  World Cup down hill Velosity Challenge . Watched a few skiers come down on practice runs and they go a bit too fast for my liking on skis ( 160+kph). That’s quick. Unfortunately an ambulance helicopter  arrived over our apartment late in the afternoon to air lift a skier who lost control on the run and wasn’t in the best of conditions.

Snowfall none stop

We have had heaps of snow, far more than we expected, being that we are later in the season, now into March. The snow has been so beautiful as it falls softly in large flakes, settling on everything.

Margy ann stepping out for a quick stroll down to the shops

After a great morning skiing, Jack & Ella experience there first spa with snow falling on them. Such a strange sensation .

The kids loved the outdoor heated spa

It’s now a set plan every morning the Margy ann, Jack & Pop head up the chairlift first thing and fly through a few early runs. The snow conditions have been incredible, so good it seems like skiing on air. James has taken Ella on the smaller lower more gentle run and they have had great success in Ella skiing on her own with confidence. Natalie has left the fold and hired a snowboard and has had a private lesson, she ( I’m afraid to admit) is going very well .

In between runs , Ella stops and makes a snowman. You can’t take your skiing too seriously

Later in the day we skied down 5 mile run, which is, as the name claims is 5 miles long . That IS a long way for a 4 year old to ski. But she gave it her best( no tears and all good) .

Coming down 5 mile

This Nutella must be good stuff !!  The energy levels seem to last the day.

As if we don’t do enough through the day, we then go tubing late in the afternoon just for fun.

Jack heads off down the tube park run

Natalie, selfies down the ice tube run, ( it may appear on Facebook later)

What. A fun pack day!!!

I wonder why I’m ready for bed???

Post more adventures later. Good night.

Ella’s got it

After a few days of frustration for Ella , she has got it. She has told Margy ann that Santa is going to bring her a snowboard for Chistmas as she wants to be a boarder not a Skier.

We are experiencing heavy snowfall today, it started just as the lifts started to turn, so as the morning progressed we got nice fresh snow over the runs. It was noticeably a lot colder today and by the top of the chair, face and fingers were feeling the affects of the temperature. Skied until Jack got too cold and headed for home ( by this time the snow was getting very deep and a few spectacular spills and tumbles were had, plus a few frustration tears by Jack ) nice lazy afternoon , outside spa with the snow falling on your head is always a unique experience.

A Day to Remember

I think the smile says it all. A morning of fresh snow, sunshine, and Sun Peaks almost to ourselves. A day to remember. The first few hours Margy Ann ,Pop & Jack skied Mt Morrisey until morning tea and then the Cattleys went out and carved the mountain to pieces. Ella & Nan return for a break back in the residence . Ella has finally worked out the snow plough and is starting to master the gentle giant ski run.( more photos to follow)

Ella also enjoying the hot chocolate and goodies that come after a few hours skiing. She asks after every run, can I have a hot chocolate now???

James, Natalie and Jack enjoy the great snow and sunshine

Natalie after telling Jack to be careful ,  starts finding jumps and obstacles to add a bit of spice to her runs.
