Yesterday was a rare moment in Vancouver when the clouds lifted and the sun made a quick appearance . A sea plane can be seen as it makes its final approach to landing in the harbour from our vantage point (our room) in the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.
So the girls went shopping instead . With good results. We are only now one day ( tomorrow evening ) away from heading home. We have had a great time , but as usual , by now we are missing everyone and looking forward to seeing all soon at home.
Home on the 17th mid morning.
Well, that’s all folks!!!!!
We finish with a whimper more than a roar.
The weather has conspired to flatten our excitement , rain and warm weather.
We have had considering the conditions, still many hours of good skiing?
But Canadian British Columbia interior fluffy dry powder (it sure not ) ,we have about one third of the mountain , all areas above 1800 mtrs high in good conditions , yet anything under that, it just turns to slush of glug through the day.
The higher part of the mountain has had its drawback with bad visibility , but every now and then , the cloud lifts, the light comes good and we score a great run. The worst possible conditions here still rate better than what we consider a great day at home
Kimmy is very excited about another fantastic morning tea at Bolaccos.
Everyday we ski back to meet here for the best hot choccy, coffee and selected tasty delights. Thank you Conrad & Elizabeth for your excellent products
Well, what a day.
We awoke to a surprising clear morning, we hit the mountain early and went high. While we were sitting under drizzle yesterday , and grey warm conditions in the valley at the village, it still remained well below zero and light snowfalls fell on Mt Todd at over 2000 mtrs through the night. We had a great ski this morning, absolutely no one up there , Just Us.
In the afternoon, Kim & Jeff took themselves for a dog sled tour out the back wood to a frozen lake. They had a ball, with an eight dog team pulling them through the snow. They even drove the sleds and dogs themselves out on the frozen lake. Margy ann and I waved them goodbye and where glad to see there safe return later in the afternoon.
Very mild weather has stablized over us here in Canada. Not what we really want at this time. All the previous years on our visits here it has never been above 0c. But! Unfortunately this year we have had many days up to around +5c and to make thing worse, it has even rained.
Margy ann about to set off down our street for her first runs of the day.
This , we hope to get again , on Tuesday , when another snow front and slightly cooler weather arrives.
We are all enjoying the relaxing time here. It’s one of life’s great treats ,when your apartment sits above a bottle shop, and a chocolate store. Every evening it’s a new taste experience.
This is what greets us, first chairlift ride up in the morning. Another fresh fall of snow and Jeff has a brand new set of skis to play with. These days are always a challenge , as you try to place yourself on the mountain where you can achieve the most untracked snow before other skiers find you private secret. Everybody is switched on to the good conditions and untracked gems soon get carved to pieces. Can’t complain, we always get our share, and really there isn’t any crowd.
Jeff and I , back down in the village , happy after a mornings adventure among the fresh snow
This is Bolaccos, Conrad and Elizabeth’s best little cafe in Sunpeaks. Unfortunately , it is at times popular as this photo shows. But Kimmy and Margy ann wouldn’t go anywhere else. This is our daily meeting place from coming of the mountains to meet up with Kimmy.
This is the view from our apartment, again, we are not disappointed with the accommodation here at Sunpeaks.
Walked up to the umbrella cafe for a hotdog snack . It’s one of those things you do !!!
My Morrisey is always a fun ski in the afternoon, today was as usual, no one around.
Snow is still on the forecast, but it IS getting milder and not very cold at. All.
Well!!! What a great two days skiing. Since we have arrived here at Sunpeaks it has snowed. All day yesterday, and then, this morning we awoke to sunny breaks and good cold conditions -3c in the village and -8 c up the mountain.
The photo above is Jeff enjoying himself skiing back towards the village this morning .
Margy ann’s loves to get a few turns when there’s no one about.
That’s Jeff, away in the distance below her, he tends to be very anti social when the conditions are like this. Sswwisssh— gone!!!! see you at the bottom
Kimmy has been out and about, meeting all the locals and organising our social activities, she has been loving the snowshoeing and exploring all the village.
Forecast is for more snow in a day or too, so we are all looking forward to another burst of picture postcard happenings.
We all left Silver Star yesterday , we woke to a snowy morning , had a taxi and bus ride to Sunpeaks , snowy and icy conditions all the way , took us around 4 hours to get there , Kimmy had hands over eyes at certain times , a little bit of slip and slide was the order of the day .
Below is a picture of sisterly love in fun mode and a few pics of our last morning in SilverStar .
As usual Sunpeaks did not disappoint , we have a lovely room as usual and the snow has not stopped since our arrival . Had a 8.30am start to catch the powder . Then a bit of Snow Showing on our brand new shoes this afternoon , quite an adventure.
Below a few shots of us girls on the trail and the scenery , BEAUTIFUL !!!
